How to Control Ants

May 6, 2015

Common Black Ant, Garden Ant (Lasius niger)

These species of ants are harmless out of door but the same little black insects will inevitably become pests when finding ways indoors or are even nesting and breeding inside your home or business premises. Whether ants have been around your premises for a while or they have just appeared out of the blue, or perhaps you do not want to wait for ants to come you will need to choose a suitable as well as safe but effective ant control & prevention solution.

Ant pest prevention & control in brief

Although you can hardly get rid of common ants completely for a long time in certain outdoor areas you can still effectively control them within your home or other premises. Main focus should be put on ant pest prevention; e.g. sealing up obvious & potential ant entry points on the outside of buildings, protection of vents with purpose made fine mesh brush strips fitted to the bottom of external doors and a perimeter spray of good quality insecticide with prolonged residual life can help you keep ants out. The external perimeter spray is good to combine with treatment to ants’ nests and trails if any are visible, i.e. ant workers are out foraging for food. The most effective products can be used are liquid pyrethroids, better even synergized for greater effect, and carbamate dusts with bendiocarb being the no.1 ant killer. Application methods are by use of compression sprayers for liquids and pneumatic dusters for powders (dusts).

Where garden ants have come from?

It should be noted Common Black Ant may also be called Garden Ant which strongly suggests where these ants would naturally live and where they have probably come from before invading your home or business premises.
