Wasps are aggressive in autumn. Get rid of them now!

September 8, 2015

It’s in the autumn when wasps are more likely to attack people. Read about what wasps are doing now and get a tip for their effective and safe control in Greater Glasgow, Inverclyde and Ayrshire.

Cold weather behind decrease in wasp numbers

If you were unfortunate wasps had picked your place to nest at in the spring you probably have noticed wasp activity around the nest has grown busy by now. This year, due to cold and wet spring with summer not making up for it wasp nests mainly did not grow to thousands but rather hundreds of individual wasps per each nest.

Wasps dying off soon for winter?

Mating in wasps takes place toward the end of summer after which newly reared and fertilised female wasps leave the nest for hibernation while wasp males and infertile wasp females die when outside temperatures drop permanently down to about 5 C. The hibernating wasps are females with aspiration to become wasp queens in the spring. One wasp queen starts a new wasp nest in the spring.

Where wasp queens hibernate?

In natural environment under the bark of trees for instance; in urban environment possibly in the same loft where a wasp nest has been.

Do wasps tend to come back to places have been?

Yes, some places where wasps can always find enough food such as insects and nectars to feed themselves and their larvae are more appealing to wasps than others. Shelter from the elements comes as the next.

How to prevent wasps from returning?

Treat active wasp nests before the existing wasps could complete their life cycle – it would mean aspiring wasp queens leaving a nest for hibernation. In a case of an untreated wasps nest left on or near your premises you would have all the chances to have more in the next year.

Why are wasps aggressive in the autumn?

Because there’s no more wasp larvae in the wasp nest to be fed by wasp workers the latter indulge themselves in sweet doing nothing but feeding themselves and annoying you.

Do wasps come in the house?

Yes, it happens when a wasp nest is located on the house that wasps start to appear more frequently inside as weather cools down in the autumn.
