Appearance, size, and life cycle of spiders in Britain

There are no native species of spiders in the UK that could be dangerous to humans. Although black widows or tarantulas that are imported species, kept as pets by some people, can be dangerous. All spiders are capable of injecting venom from their fangs into the prey animal, most often insects but very few spiders in Britain would be able to pierce human skin with their bites. As suggested, spiders are predatory, feeding usually on insects that they catch in silky webs they make. Spiders follow incomplete metamorphoses. Eggs are deposited in the spider webs and balled together by the silk they produce. The eggs hatch into small spiders that are like miniatures of adult spiders, called spiderlings. Most spiders in Britain produce 1-2 generations per year. As mentioned above, spiders have 8 legs and body consists of 2 segments only - the head and abdomen.
