How to tackle a wasp nest that is located in height safely and efficiently?
It is often wasps construct their nests near the eves or roof area of houses where they can hardly be accessed from the ground.
I do not recommend you setting up your ladders to climb up in order to gain a close up access for the treatment / removal of wasp nest. It’s not only for a greater risk of being stung by wasps but mainly for the likely aftermath – a fall off the ladder may happen just when you get stung or because of it.
Going into the loft is an option if you can find the wasp nest there. If you do, be aware wasps would be attracted to the light once you shine a beam of your torch onto their nest. You can avoid the undesired attention of wasps flying for you by positioning the torch on the floor away from you, with its beam aimed at the wasp nest. An efficient treatment is application of a suitable dust formulation insecticide into the nest and / or onto the wasp alighting areas. The insecticidal dust / powder is meant to come to the nest via the wasp entry point. Every wasp nest has a single entry point. The wasp alighting area is on the outside of your loft / roof, just where you can see most of the wasp traffic going to. Spraying insecticide inside your loft from distance would have hardly any impact at all. Warning for wasp control amateurs: likelihood of being stung by wasps is unacceptably high.
