Wasp queens came out of hibernation during a sunny spell of warmer weather earlier in March and laid first bundles of eggs in new nests in April have now reared first wasp workers. The wasp workers have taken from their queens all the nest-building and brood-feeding tasks so the wasp queens are free to dedicate their time to laying eggs. The wasp nests are now (start of May) a size of a golf ball will grow into a tennis-ball size within a couple of weeks to be a size of rugby ball in the height of the Summer. Some of the wasp nests will become massive, a size of a sheep, with thousands of potentially very dangerous flying, stinging insects – wasps.
