Why should you control rodents?
Rodent-borne Diseases
Rats and mice are known as potential carriers of diseases that are transferrable to man. Some of the rodent-borne diseases are Weil’s disease, Salmonellosis, rat-bite fever, tetanus, typhus, and in the past, it used to be plague. Parasites carried and transmitted by rodents include ringworm, mites, tapeworms, ticks and fleas. There are also a number of diseases that can be transmitted between animals and onto your pets. In most countries, including Scotland, legislation protects consumers from being sold to or eating food that is not fit for human consumption.
Structural Damage by Rodents
Damage to structures by rodent gnawing and burrowing is widespread. Rats, in particular, can undermine foundations by their excavations and destroy the fabric of buildings. Almost any commodity is susceptible to gnawing. Lead pipes and even metal-sheathed cables are sometimes gnawed through by rats and grey squirrels, causing the interruption of services. All rodents, including mice, frequently attack electrical wiring, resulting in electrical failures and fires.
